What's Your Carbon Footprint?

A Carbon Footprint is a measure of the impact human activities have on the environment in terms of the amount of greenhouse gases produced, measured in units of carbon dioxide. A Carbon Footprint is made up of the sum of two parts, the direct / primary footprint and the indirect / secondary footprint.

1. The primary footprint is a measure of our direct emissions of CO2 from the burning of fossil fuels including domestic energy consumption and transportation (e.g. car and plane).

2. The secondary footprint is a measure of the indirect CO2 emissions from the whole lifecycle of products we use - those associated with their manufacture and eventual breakdown.

So, why are we mentioning this on Motorkult TV? The good folks over at VW.com provide a handy means of measuring our vehicles' carbon footprint, even if you don't drive a VW! How nice of them!

Out of Hard Drive space? Time to Panic!

We were just about to unleash "Episode Six: The Chip Foose Interview" on y'all in true HD thius weekend, when we ran into a serious of glitchs based on a lack of available hard drive space on our servers. Yes, I know- totally lame.

We finally got the episode up, but am now looking into how to up the storage we have have, or switch hosting companies all together. Hence the short delay. Look for shiny new episodes to knock your socks off in multiple formats soon, including H.264, AppleTV, and HD (That's "high-definition" for all you under the bridge).

Don't forget that you can follow the progress of Motorkult TV on our blog, website, and now, at everyone's favorite hang out, MySpace! (MySpace.com/MotorKultFriends)

Review: "Street Tuner Challenge" (Season 2)

Yeah no one asked but...

First let me admit that I hate mainstream media. I never listen to the radio, rarely go to the movies, and I canceled my Cable subscription 4 years ago and haven't looked back. I'm certainly not the guy you want to review a TV show! (lol)

However, I finally saw Episode Two (and a glimspe of Ep 1) of "Street Tuner Challenge" last night @ my friend's house (the same guy who recorded, then deleted Ep. 1 cuz he needed the HD space for "Weeds"?!?). But I digress...

Already knowing what the finished cars will look like, it was interesting to watch the show for "show's sake"; Very MTV-wannabe, very "16-28 male", visually speaking. Certainly not produced with diehard tuners, racers, or even show-car fans in mind. I found myself hoping for a couple commercials just to remind me I was watching mainstream media.

Having met most of the Fireballed! Racing guys on many occasions- and I'll admit they're not the staunchest crew out there- in my opinion the production thus far taints the seriousness in which they take the actual under-the-hood aspects of their products in favor of the over-the-top visual designs Hollywood loves so much (the fact that they insist on referring to the FBR team as "the hollywood team" kinda says it right there). Fireball Tim certainly knows how to work the camera and certainly ads to the entertainment value of the show, so it makes for good TV I guess. I really wish I knew more about the other crews (Focus Sport, Skunk2 Racing) and could compare their "treatment".

As a fairly new car "enthusiast", I do like the different directions each shop is taking their cars and the persona to match is cool too (can you say "executive pre-production meeting"?). From what I saw of Episode One and Episode Two in its entirety, I think the show will get better (i.e. less camp, more technical) as the season progresses.

At the end of the day, it's just another "reality" TV show designed to space out the commercials and make me think Smirnoff Ice isn't just another flavored malt beverage. If my friend remembers to TiVo them I'll probably watch the rest of the episodes just to give STC/Speed Channel the numbers and validate the MINI brand. (Wow- I could be blatantly pimping my own online show right now, but I got C+ in Marketing!)

As a non-TV-watcher I look forward to other objective reviews of the show as they begin to surface.

Look! A pirate! -->

A Motorkult Update

Yesterday I got an email from a follower (yeah, I think I'm goin' there) with a simple question:

"How is Motorkult coming along?"

It made me realize we need a monthly email newsletter! Here's my response, which is sort of our first newsletter/update:

Hey_______. Good to hear from you. Thanks for asking about the show. I'm feel like a proud papa! In short, Motorkult TV is coming along rather nicely! We're building a pretty good team as people I know and trust are finally jumping on board. A new website is being developed and we're following all the great tips we picked up at PNME.

Episode Four posted this past weekend and an interview with Chip Foose is being edited as we speak. The new camera gear really puts the show in a different league and we're polishing up all aspects of production to better reflect the "premium content" we hope to offer. (Can you tell I'm excited?) We were planning on going to the Drifting Championships in Irwindale this weekend but got denied from their PR Department :( We've still got some surprises up our sleeves though!

I'm regretting sleeping through my Marketing courses in college- I'm really struggling with getting the word out (that, and having a day job *and* grad school) but all in time, as they say. Over all, things are looking really good- I'm super excited about this and we will soon have
a short backlog of quality content! Again, thanks for asking!
